Michaela O'Rourke

Senior Business Operations Analyst, Dell Technologies, 1

While I was at secondary school in Regina Mundi College in Douglas, Cork City, I always had a passion for logic and problem solving. My strongest subjects at leaving cert level were Physics, Math and Accounting. With those passions and skills in mind, I wanted to go to university to complete a STEM based degree, which at the time I was unsure whether that would lead to a science or business based degree.

With my strengths and interests in mind, I decided to pursue a Bachelors Degree in Business Information Systems (BIS) at Munster Technological University. The BIS degree delivered a blend of non-tech and tech skills, and included a range of modules which focused on Software Development, Database Design, Finance, Statistics, Marketing and many more. Due to my passion for these topics, hard work and determination, I completed my degree in 2021, ranking top of my year; something I am very proud of.

During my final year of BIS, I underwent the STEM Aspire Mentorship Program at Dell Technologies; a program that opened the doors for where I am today. The STEM Aspire Mentorship Program is a 6-month program whereby each mentee is assigned a mentor to work on aspects such as confidence, presenting, CV & interview prep and LinkedIn. This program further enhanced my passions for STEM, and in particular demonstrated the opportunities of women in STEM.

From here, my graduate journey at Dell Technologies commenced. Now 2 years within the company, I am currently working as a Senior Business Operations Analyst in the Storage Supply Chain Nerve Center Team. Storage is a huge part of what Dell offers to our customers, and my team is the one which reports financially the storage business performance across our manufacturing sites in Cork, North Carolina and Franklin. My current role within the team is to manage the Storage and Solutions business in the Cork facility to ensure orders are prioritized to our end customers, bottlenecks are limited, and key manufacturing metrics are within goal. Due to this, I work very closely with the Cork Manufacturing Teams to ensure orders are shipped on time to our end-customers, shipment revenue is maximized and our KPI’s are within target.
